Raised On Rock with Chris Franklin

Chris’ love of rock music started at  a young age with the purchase of his first 45…. The Who’s ‘Pinball Wizard’ and his passion for radio grew stronger when he discovered album oriented artists such as Led Zeppelin (his nickname at school was ‘Led’), Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Yes….. In 1978 Chris became a fan of BBC Radio 1’s Friday Rock Show, presented by the late, great Tommy Vance (TV) which, at the time, was the only national rock show in the UK. Chris regards Tommy Vance as THE greatest radio presenter of all-time and freely admits that his own ‘Raised ON Rock! show is hugely influenced by TV’s landmark show and considers his show to be, in spirit at least, a continuation of Tommy’s show. Indeed ‘Raised ON Rock’ includes several original Friday Rock Show features including ‘The Friday Night Connection’ and the annual listeners ‘All Time Top 10 Birthday Programme’….  where Chris plays the 10 greatest rock tracks of all time as voted for by listeners and members of The Official BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show facebook page.

Rather than always playing obvious well known ‘classic rock’ tracks Chris’ show focuses on new releases and he is proud to play deep album cuts that even dedicated rock radio stations seem to ignore. Moreover, several unsigned bands have made their radio debuts on Chris’ show. Chris considers many of  today’s new classic rock releases to be at least as good as all the great rock music that has gone before. In his words ‘Classic Rock IS present tense’…..

And oh yeah, it was Julie who came up with the name ‘Raised ON Rock!’……
