OUR EARTH WEEK

Worried about the birds and bees? Don’t sit and fret: tune in to our breakfast and community shows 10Radio from 11^th November and a whole week will fill you with hope and inspiration.

What is OEW?

For one week, starting at 8.15 on Monday 11^th November, community radio stations up and down the country are showing the love for our planet: all its habitats and all its creatures. Over 50 stations took part in 2023, this year we’re hoping it will be even more, and we’re proud to be one of them!

What will I hear?

This year’s theme is especially exciting : the Sound of the Wild. Listen to the deep cracking of a glacier, or creatures going about their business in a pond, plus loads more.  Play the Mystery Sound Game, or just enjoy the music which lists Nature officially as one of the artists.  But we’ll be thinking too about the increasing quiet, sometimes even silence as our fellow creatures disappear.

Will I get to learn stuff?

You certainly will!  There will be messages from RSPB, Make My Money Matter and other national organisations and campaign groups, as well as wildlife film makers and leaders in cutting-edge science (like feeding the UK for a fortnight with ONE stem cell).  Plus we’ll be hearing direct from people attending the COP29 talks who’ll be able to tell us about what they are, and what’s happening there.

Can I take part?

Yes! We’ll be posting one simple question per day on our social media; let us know your thoughts!  There will be quizzes (mystery sounds) food tastings (veggie fry up anyone?), and also a national Birdsong Challenge: download the Merlin app and tell us about the birds you can hear near you and we’ll let everyone else know.

Let’s connect to celebrate our beautiful and precious home, to inspire each other, and take action, no matter how small.  It will all make a difference!
