with Pauline Homeshaw and  Andrew Norris

This week:-

9 “Travellers Tales” – Andrew returns from his exciting adventures in countries ranging from Australia to Africa.  We hear a little about the highlights of this mega trip and what he missed about home?!  Perhaps the rain!

9.25  Wiveliscombe Town Councillor Patti Martin updates listeners on matters concerning our town.

9.45  “L B Loxley’s Wildlife”       Join LB as he takes another delve into the wonderful world of wildlife.

10    John Burgess – “Somerset People”  This month John goes back in time again and introduces George Withers, a Somerset farmer who was born in 1924 and farmed on the Somerset levels on the farm he inherited from his parents. He also inherited their love of music especially the old folk songs which they sang while going about their farm work. George grew up with these old songs which he has sung all his life.  John met up with George in his retirement years in Ilminster.

10.30        Kingsmead student Katrina Nightingale won the Exmoor Rotary Young Chef of the Year in the local and regional competitions and in last week’s National Finals came a very close 2nd in a tense and exciting event.  Katrina talks to Pauline about her experience in all these rounds and modestly suggests that she may consider Hospitality as a way forward, when she has done her GCSE’s this summer!

Repeats Monday 4pm, Tuesday 10am and Wednesday 5am and can be heard via our Listen Again link below at any time before next week’s show.

Director

Kevin Philips

Growing up in a house filled with the sounds of Basie, Kenton and Bird, my interest in music was piqued. As the period of my musical foundation was the 1970’s though, I found myself drawn to the teenage boy interests of rock music, punk and new wave, in the 1980's I moved towards indie and world music but always with an ear to the roots of blues and jazz. Latterly, my tastes have dissipated even further and this is reflected in my shows. From Lead Belly to Tchaikovsky, Elvis to Richard Hell, and Bowie to the Real Thing.
