Phil Kent

Background

I was born in Cheltenham – Gloucestershire and educated in London at Fortescue House School, Middlesex. Having left school in the early sixties, I moved down to Sussex. In the mid-sixties, I moved from my cottage in Mayfield Sussex, up to London and studied music theory and improvisation with leading jazz double bass virtuoso Peter Ind. Within two years I became a professional jazz bass player and went on to tour all over Europe and play with most of the biggest names in British jazz. I was also for many years, the regular bass player with Bob Wallis and his Storyville Jazzmen. For further information on my jazz career, go to Google and enter into the search box -” Phil Kent Musician” or try instead  “Phil Kent at 10Radio”. – Quite apart from my jazz career, I am also mentioned in several books about The Rolling Stones, “Golden Stone” and “Paint it Black” because of my involvement in running a fan club for one of the Rolling Stones, founder and guitarist Brian Jones. I am now delighted to have my regular jazz programme on local radio- which is broadcast from 10Radio Studios in Wiveliscombe  Somerset. On my shows, I specialise in playing all the latest tracks from  the world of Modern Jazz – Contemporary Jazz and Smooth Jazz.
